What is Menopause?
Many women report that their insomnia began around the time of menopause and feel that hormonal changes underlie their sleep problems. Although some studies have linked hot flashes to disturbed sleep, a recent study found that menopause itself may not cause poor sleep. Difficulties getting to sleep and falling asleep are more likely associated with the development of circadian disruptions due to poor sleep habits. As such, many post-menopausal women with insomnia may benefit from a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach.
